Bathing in the noonday sun, you might think you live the good life Waiting for the rains to come, you hear the thunder strike Pick it up and pack it in, you'd better run and hide- The devil's got a bone to pick when he beats his pretty wife. I always did what daddy said, not out to break my mother's back But hard work don't keep hard luck from slipping in the cracks There's one thing daddy never said that turned out to be true- When you're marching to a different drum the world is out to beat you. Nothing wrong with home made bread and poke salad to live on Most people think you're less than shit if you ain't got a home loan It's amazing how I once was blind, now I finally see- From here on out I'm treating folks the way they try and treat me.
